Want to get money for nothing and chicks for free, too?
Is anyone out there interested in helping me developing reportbug-ng? I’m currently very busy with my diploma thesis and can’t spend as much time on my pet bug reporting tool as I’d like to spend. The package itself has some small bugs, is not yet feature complete, but in a fairly good shape and quite popular too.
If you’re interested you should have experience with python, QT and maybe some SOAP-skills. You don’t have to be a Debian Developer or -Maintainer!
I haven’t done this before so I don’t know that the best practice for such a situation is. I’m currently thinking of something like:
- First you send me patches, which I’ll review, apply and upload
- After a while you get write access to the BZR repo
- Finally become co-maintainer of the package if you want
Interested? Then write me a mail to: venthur at debian org.
Oh, and please don’t write if you just want to get your pet-bug-which-I-still-refuse-to-fix fixed.
PS: If you prefer guys over chicks, you’re welcome too ![]()

This means you would refuse to fix #422085 even if someone would do the work for you?
Man, there are things on this world I really don’t understand.
Why do you make the life of other people dealing with bugreports harder than necessary?

So let me get this right: you’re actually refusing to fix that bug? Why would people chip in to help someone who specifically advertises that one of the problems with his application is that he refuses to acknowledge bugs filed against it out of spite?

You can find my reasons for not implementing this feature request in the bugreport itself. I don’t want to argue about this here. If necessary, please discuss it in the bugreport itself.
Cheers,
Bastian

With some good will I could follow you to the point where you say it’s wishlist and not a priority to implement. But I now lost you when you claim that you plainly *refuse* to fix it at all.

Yes, that report
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=422085
should be fixed, I run into this too and I was advised not to use reportbug-ng. I also won’t help with this package if you refuse to accept a patch for this feature.

So you just insist on being an irrational jerk?
Congratulations, mission succeeded.

Bastian,
I’m not sure why you publicize the discussion in the 422085 bugreport. You kind of come off as being a bit of a jerk about this.
Sure, the bug is technically wishlist, and certainly we are all volunteers and spend our time (or not) implementing the features we find important.
However, there does seem to be a patch available now. Rather than be needlessly stubborn (and disrespectful of the teams maintaining difficult, large package collections such as X and KDE), please, consider doing the gracious thing and either upload a new version with the patch, or give your blessing to an NMU.
